As a Response to Intervention model, PBIS applies a three-tiered system of support, and a problem-solving process to enhance the capacity of schools to effectively educate all students.
The purpose School Wide Positive Behavior Intervention and Support Program at Davenport Elementary School is to establish and maintain a safe and effective school environment that maximizes academic achievement and behavioral competence of all students.
1. School wide intervention for all students (universal)
2. Specialized interventions for learner who are at risk for academic or social failure due to behavior challenges (targeted)
3. Individualized interventions for students with intense/chronic behavior challenges (intensive)
o Positively stated expectations for all students and staff (see Matrix)
o Procedures for teaching these expectations (reteach lessons)
o Continuum of procedures for encouraging demonstration and maintenance of these expectations (Caught Being Good slips/celebrations)
o Continuum of procedures for discouraging rule violating behaviors
o Procedures for monitoring and evaluation the effectiveness of the discipline system on a regular and frequent basis
